Man Charged With Murder in Shooting Outside Lake Highlands Fitness Center

Dallas police arrested Dekelvin Michael Henderson, 44, in connection with the fatal shooting for 40-year-old Antonio Royal.

According to the Dallas Police Department, a man was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 22, for his alleged role in a fatal shooting outside a Lake Highlands fitness center earlier this month.

Dallas police arrested Dekelvin Michael Henderson, 44, who now faces murder and assault charges in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Antonio Royal on Monday, Sept. 6.

According to Dallas PD, officers were called to the scene of a shooting at around 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6. near the Lake Highlands fitness center in the 7200 block of Skillman Street, at Walnut Hill Lane.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers of the Dallas PD found 40-year-old Antonio Royal, who had received a gunshot wound. Police said he was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses told Dallas police that a group of men had been involved in an argument before shots were fired. Dallas police did not immediately arrest anyone in connection with the shooting.

Police placed over a dozen evidence markers in the parking lot between the gym and neighboring businesses. The scene remained active until around 1 p.m.

Through the investigation, police determined that Henderson was likely the culprit responsible for the shooting. He is now in custody at a Dallas County jail, where his bail has been set at $501,500.
