Due to continuing highway expansion work, a long-term road closure is going into effect on June 23 in the Dallas-Mesquite area.

Beginning Friday evening, the northbound and southbound lanes of Gus Thomasson Road at I-30 will be closed continuously for up to nine months.

Commuters will be redirected to Motley Drive and Galloway Avenue as alternative routes.

From 8 p.m. on Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, I-30 at Gus Thomasson Road will be closed to traffic. Drivers can detour along the frontage roads during this time. All cross-street bridges at the intersection will also be closed in all directions.

Other projects to expand I-30 have also recently been announced.

In May, the Texas Department of Transportation announced plans to widen the 12 miles of highway between Bass Pro Drive in Garland and Ferguson Road in East Dallas, as The Dallas Express reported.

The City of Dallas posts road closure information on the Nextdoor social media platform. In addition, drivers can sign up for text alerts by sending the message “635 East” to 1-833-499-6353.

“All closures are subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances,” City Council Assistant Chris Watkins posted on Nextdoor. “Closure listings will be updated on a timely basis on the project Lane Closures Page,” he continued.

Road closures are also occurring in the Fort Worth area along the I-35W corridor.

As reported by  The Dallas Express, TEXpress just finished making improvements to a 6.7-mile-long segment of the highway and opened the newly constructed toll lanes on Tuesday. This portion of the I-35W expansion project, the third so far, was finished three months ahead of schedule.

TEXpress warned there would be rolling closures of the north- and southbound lanes of I-35W between U.S. 81/287 and Keller Hicks Road from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 5 a.m. on June 23. Some sections of the frontage road will be closed as well.

In addition, various cross-streets intersecting the freeway in that area will see rolling closures, including Heritage Trace Parkway and Golden Triangle Boulevard.
