On December 6th, a motorcycle crashed into the back of Prosper Mayor James Ray Smith’s truck.

The motorcyclist, identified as 72-year-old Rodney Carver Jr., was transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

According to McKinney police, the Mayor allegedly did not check if the motorcyclist was hurt after the incident. Smith did not know it was a motorcyclist that hit him and stated that he assumed it was a hit-and-run situation and that the other car had sped off. He has complied with investigators and passed a sobriety test.

A grand jury will decide whether any charges will be brought against the mayor in connection with the incident.

“I have cooperated with the police throughout this matter, and l continue doing so. Most importantly, I wish to express my sincere and deepest sympathies to the motorcycle rider who collided with the rear of my truck,” said Mayor Smith in a Prosper City Council meeting.
