Police arrested 26-year-old Ryan Thompson of Allen, Texas on Sunday in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred the previous day.

On Saturday, January 8, around 8:30 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of East Bethany Drive, close to South Greenville Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 32-year-old man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, dead from a gunshot wound.

According to a press release by the Allen Police Department, a passenger in the victim’s car called 911. The passenger was in the vehicle when the incident happened but was not hit by a bullet.

Police determined that a person in a passing vehicle shot at the victim’s car twice, and one of the bullets hit the victim. Police have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of the family.

Witnesses gave police information that led to identifying Thompson as the suspect in the alleged drive-by shooting. Police then obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, who lives in the 800 block of Lake Highlands Drive, about two miles from the murder scene. Thompson attempted to flee on foot from the residence but was soon apprehended by police.

He is currently being held at the Collin County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. He has been charged with murder and attempting to evade arrest.

According to police, the gunshot victim and Thompson knew each other personally, and the motive for the murder is still under investigation.
