Local leaders in Dallas and Fort Worth are reacting to President Joe Biden dropping out of his re-election run.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Biden ended his re-election campaign on Sunday after pressure from leaders on both sides of the political aisle, marking a thorny finale to his more than 50-year-long political career in Washington, D.C.
“President Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race is truly of no consequence. The focus must be on the failed progressive socialist policies. It doesn’t matter who is at the top of the Democratic Party ticket, their policies will not change. Matter of fact, VP Kamala Harris is complicit with these failures. Republicans can’t be complacent, and this is about turnout to ensure we restore this Republic,” retired Lt. Col. and current Dallas County GOP Chair Allen West told The Dallas Express.
American Jewish Conservatives President Benji Gershon stated that Biden was not fit to run for president.
“President Joe Biden has recently announced his decision to drop out of the presidential race, underscoring his acknowledgment that he is not fit to run for re-election. However, it is imperative that President Biden also resign from his current position, as his inability to effectively serve as President poses significant risks to our nation,” Gershon said in the statement to DX.
“President Biden’s cognitive decline and frequent public missteps have raised serious concerns about his capacity to fulfill the rigorous demands of the presidency. His administration’s numerous policy failures, from the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal to the crisis at our southern border, demonstrate a troubling pattern of poor decision-making and lack of leadership,” Gershon said.
But Democrats praised Biden for his performance in office and his decision not to run again.
“@POTUS has been the most legislatively consequential President of our lifetimes. This is another example of how he always puts his country first,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said on X.
“Our nation would not be where it is today without the tireless work of President Biden. He deserves an enormous amount of credit for his service to the American people, and I have been incredibly proud to work alongside him,” U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX) from Fort Worth said on X.
