Sixteen-year-old Peyton Jones of Crandall, a beloved high school student and varsity cheerleader, was injured in a car accident over the weekend that her mother says she is not expected to survive, CBS 11 reported.
Her parents have made the decision to take her off life support and donate her organs, according to a GoFundMe campaign started by members of the community.
The GoFundMe page, as of Wednesday, has raised $8,037 of its $10,000 goal.
Jones was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. According to the GoFundMe page, Jones was ejected from her vehicle and is currently in the ICU at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
“Her parents are making sure that Peyton’s life will continue to bless others,” the GoFundMe page reads. “On behalf of the Jones and Turner families, we thank you for all the support and love the communities have shown. They are so grateful for the prayers.”
The rollover accident that injured Jones, which occurred Saturday on a rural road in Kaufman County, has brought the community together, with residents holding vigils at Crandall High School and restaurants donating proceeds of tamale sales to the family.
“She was the funny one,” Makiala Brown said. “A great athlete. She’s a great friend of the girls at the gym.”
Brown, who spent seven years training Jones at a cheer academy in Kemp, said that she and the rest of the town are devasted over the news of the accident.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Brown said. “She’s such a special kid and she’s so special to this program and our coaches and our teammates.”
How the rollover accident occurred is not apparent at this time, but residents of the small rural town of Crandall in western Kaufman County, with a population of roughly 3,800, have banded together to help the Jones family get through the tragedy.
