Richardson is organizing its annual trash cleanup for later this week.

The Trash Bash cleanup is slated to start on April 15 and will consist of events at various city facilities where the city government and different non-profit organizations will team up to clean up the city of Richardson, according to a new release.

“It’s really lovely to see the community engage and … come together in such a wonderful way to make Richardson beautiful,” said Danea Newman, the City of Richardson’s environmental health manager, via Community Impact.

The activities will begin at the First United Methodist Church, located at 503 N. Central Expressway, starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m. There will be four different drop-off points in the parking lot of the church.

The drop-off points at the church will include cooking oil and grease disposal, an eyeglass collection station hosted by the Lions Club, a station for picking up free mulch or compost, and a Network of Community Ministries collection event.

City officials will provide some of the tools and equipment necessary for cleaning up the city, such as litter tongs, trash bags, and gloves.

There will be a book drive at Richardson City Hall which, aside from books, will collect CDs and DVDs between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. However, there will be no encyclopedias, magazines, or cassettes allowed.

Additionally, the Richardson Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association will be recycling electronics at its annual event.

The event will be held at the Richardson Square Mall, located at 501 S. Plano Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some of the electronics that will be recycled include televisions, printers, monitors, and cell phones. There will also be document shredding available.

Corporations and resident groups will be collecting from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to Community Impact, although litter can be picked up at any time during the day.
