Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has announced a raffle to encourage residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine as the state pushes to increase the number of shots in arms.
All Dallas residents who received the first dose of a two-dose vaccine series or the single shot of a single-dose vaccine between June 1 and July 23 will be eligible to win a prize through the raffle, Johnson’s website states.
“I’m excited to launch the #MayorsVaccineRaffle, an initiative to incentivize residents to get the #COVID19 vaccine. We have tons of prizes, including round-trip flight tickets, sports and concert tickets and an autographed @luka7doncic jersey,” Johnson said in a tweet about the program.
In an article by NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Dr. Philip Huang said more than two million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Dallas County.
Winners will be randomly selected for the raffle and they will be contacted by the Dallas Foundation and will be required to verify that they received their vaccine, as stated on the mayor’s website.
Only those who are 18 and older and who live in the City of Dallas are eligible to claim a prize, Johnson’s website states. However, those under the age of 18 that have received the vaccine can enter the raffle and have a guardian claim the prize.
Johnson has partnered with The Dallas Foundation for the initiative, his website states.
Several businesses have agreed to offer prizes and partner with the mayor and the foundation for the effort.
Partners listed on the mayor’s website include American Airlines, the Dallas Museum of Art, Two Podners Restaurant, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, Kookie Haven and the Nasher Sculpture Center.
Those wishing to sign up for the raffle can visit the mayor’s website to complete the form.
