North Texas favorite Hurtado Barbecue has announced the opening of a new location in Downtown Dallas.

Hurtado first teased the news on July 11 on X, saying, “Big News coming soon in the Big D.”

The restaurant confirmed that it will be opening a new location at 900 S. Harwood St., at the corner of the Dallas Farmers Market, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The popular barbecue spot is known as one of the only local vendors inside Globe Life Field, where the Texas Rangers play. Earlier this month, Hurtado participated as a food vendor for MLB All-Star Week, offering exclusive items for the event, The Dallas Express previously reported.

Hurtado has several locations across the metroplex, including Fort Worth, Arlington, and Mansfield, according to the restaurant’s website.

The menu features Texas barbecue staples such as brisket and ribs, as well as what the restaurant calls “Mexi-cue,” a spin-off of Tex-Mex food and barbecue. Offerings include brisket tostadas, birria tacos, Mexican street corn, and more.

Hurtado was named among the top 50 Texas barbecue spots, per Texas Monthly, in 2021.

It all began in 2018 when Brandon Hurtado and his wife Hannah started serving barbecue at pop-up events. In 2019, they started a food truck that was only open on Saturdays for lunch. The food truck became so popular that they had to expand their hours. In February 2020, the couple opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Downtown Arlington.

The Downtown Dallas expansion marks the first time that the barbecue spot will be venturing outside of Tarrant County. The space Hurtado Barbecue will be taking over in Downtown Dallas was formerly occupied by two different restaurant concepts. One of the former tenants, The Reserve, was a taqueria and bar, and another, Mudhen Meat & Greens, was a farm-to-table concept, the Star-Telegram reported.

An exact opening date for the new location has yet to be announced, reported WFAA.
