H-E-B has announced the purchase of a new property located directly in the City of Dallas.
Although still in its early stages, the project to finally open a H-E-B location in Dallas proper is underway. On January 15, the Texas-based chain announced it secured 10 acres at Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway.
“Now that the purchase of the property is complete, H-E-B will work closely with neighbors and city officials on rezoning and planning efforts for the retailer’s preliminary plans to bring its first H-E-B format store in the city of Dallas to that site. Additional details will be shared as the project develops,” read the statement.
In August, H-E-B announced another step in its North Texas expansion; the company’s first location is set to be built in Dallas County. The new store is expected to open in the Las Colinas neighborhood of Irving next year.
“While we have a lot of work to do, we look forward to connecting with our neighbors, the city, and community stakeholders to ensure we create a destination that best supports this community,” said Mabrie Jackson, Public Affairs Managing Director for H-E-B and Central Market, about the planned Dallas store.
The news of the transaction follows other recent acquisitions from the grocer.
In October, The Dallas Express reported that the company secured over 25 acres in far east Mesquite along I-20 near FM 741, anticipating continued growth in North Texas.
While H-E-B stores have only been in the metroplex since 2022, its Central Market brand has a slightly older history in North Texas, arriving in the region one year prior.
Dallas alone now boasts three Central Market grocery stores, with locations also in Plano, Southlake, and Fort Worth.
H-E-B’s other chain, Joe V’s Smart Shop, also operates one location in Dallas, the first outside of the Houston area. In total, H-E-B operates more than 435 stores across Texas and Mexico.
