A grass fire has spread into a neighborhood in Balch Springs, destroying several homes.

At least eight homes are on fire, but several other homes are threatened with the fire still spreading.

The fire appears to have started along the I-20 access and spread quickly north through a field, reaching a string of homes along Bell Manor not far from Mackey Elementary School.

Evacuations are underway for everyone on Bell Manor and nearby Broadview Drive, which also backs up to the field where the grass fire started.

The Balch Springs fire marshal has asked that everyone avoid the area.

No injuries have been reported as of this writing.

Firefighters from Dallas, Mesquite, and the Seagoville Fire Department are either on scene or on the way to assist in battling the flames.

The American Red Cross is working with Balch Springs Emergency Management to make arrangements for the families displaced by the fire.
