Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price is facing growing pressure after a Republican election volunteer filed criminal charges against him for an alleged physical altercation at a polling site on May 3.
According to a statement released on May 6 by Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret.), the Dallas County Republican Party Chairman, the altercation allegedly occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at the Friendship-West Baptist Church polling location in South Dallas.
The claimed victim, Cindy Stairs, a volunteer election official, formally filed charges with both the Dallas Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office on May 5.
The complaint officially accuses Commissioner Price of assault and “obstruction of official duties.” The polling site incident resulted in a police report filed against Price, which the Dallas County Republican Party has listed under case number 063422-2025.
“As Chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party, I find this behavior despicable, and it seems there is an evident pattern,” West said in the statement.
The DCRP Chairman further demanded that Price “resign immediately” and be “criminally prosecuted.”
West went on to ask the public to question the outcome of the altercation if it were based in a different context, saying that if the roles were reversed – had a “white male Republican Commissioner physically and verbally assaulting a Black woman?” – national media outlets and certain critics would be “descending upon Dallas.”
The Dallas Express reached out to Commissioner Price and his District 3 office for clarification via phone calls and multiple emails, yet a response was not received as of time of publication.
The specific details of the confrontation, or any video footage, have not yet been released. Yet, the allegations and police report filing have sparked controversy as the tense election season ramps up in Dallas County.
This is not the first time Price, who has continued to be a contentious figure in Dallas politics for years, has been at the center of controversy. However, a criminal accusation involving an election official could raise the stakes significantly, both legally and politically, for the commissioner.
“This type of Tyranny will no longer be tolerated and accepted, and it starts now,” West added.
The Dallas Express will continue to follow this developing story as more details become available or if Price and District 3 ever choose to respond and tell DX their side of the story.
