A former Dallas police officer who was accused of falsifying a criminal case report surrendered his law enforcement license to the state, District Attorney John Creuzot told The Dallas Morning News.

In November, Vincent Miles pleaded no contest to a Class C misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and surrendered his license to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. According to court records, this was an arrangement in exchange for serving three months’ probation.

Miles was charged with tampering with a government record in 2019. The charge of tampering with a government record is considered a felony offense in the United States.

According to The Dallas Morning News, police records state that he was assigned to investigate a burglary of a vehicle in an apartment complex on December 25, 2018.

Miles said in his investigation reports that he watched a surveillance video provided by the apartment manager. According to him, the video showed part of the crime. However, Creuzot said the apartment manager informed authorities that Miles never retrieved the video, and it was eventually deleted despite efforts by the manager to preserve it for police.

Per The Dallas Morning News, Creuzot said that the victim involved in the case was deported months later due to an unrelated drunken-driving arrest. According to Creuzot, that impacted the case, as prosecutors could not include the victim in court proceedings.

Miles, who had been with the Dallas Police Department since 1997, retired in May 2020 amidst investigation. According to internal affairs records obtained via the Texas Public Information Act, Miles was being investigated for failing to thoroughly investigate crimes between 2017 and 2019.

Looks like a case of being too lazy to fully investigate to me
