The Lewisville Fire Department announced that a firefighter collapsed in his home on New Year’s Eve. The Lewisville Fire Fighters Association said Landun Charles and his wife were preparing for work that morning when he called out in distress.
According to the firefighters association, Charles had already fallen to the floor when his wife got to him.
Charles’ wife, who is a nurse, called 911 and started CPR during the wait. Charles was airlifted to the hospital; however, he did not survive.
Charles’ wife is pregnant with their first child, who is expected to be born in February.
Charles, 31, worked as a firefighter and a paramedic at the Lewisville Fire Department for the past two years. On his days off, he worked at CareFlight as a paramedic. Before moving to North Texas, he worked in College Station as a firefighter and paramedic.
According to FOX 4 News, the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association said in a statement that Charles was an exceptional firefighter and paramedic who touched many lives, and his legacy will continue.
“Landun was an exceptional firefighter/paramedic for the city of Lewisville. He served as a field training officer for the department where he continuously passed on his knowledge and mentored his brothers and sisters in Lewisville,” the association wrote.
“Landun’s legacy will live on through the many fire department members he influenced each and every day he proudly wore the Lewisville uniform,” the statement further read.
