An assisted and independent living center got destroyed by fire on Black Friday, CBS 11 News reports.

Shahn Place Inc. in Oak Cliff is a nonprofit that has served children and adults with special needs by offering free daycare, services, and housing.

The fire has left the center struggling. Residents had to evacuate and are now trying to find a new home.

According to the CBS 11 News report, the center’s Program manager Kamel Wesley said that it appears the fire was intentionally set.

Per the report, Wesley said that some of the center’s residents live with him and his family. “It hurts to see them hurting because when you’re disabled little things to them are milestones,” Wesley said. “Independent, even though it’s their own space in an apartment setting, it meant so much to them.”

The 4,000 square-foot facility was reopened only a few months before the fire.

Wesley hopes the community rallies to help the center financially as they didn’t have insurance or coverage before the incident. Anyone who’d like to help can do so here.
