The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened three Disaster Recovery Centers in Dallas County for residents affected by storms and flooding over two months after the first round of storms tore through Dallas.

The disaster centers will help Texan homeowners and renters apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance, according to a press release. The centers are opened to assist Dallas County residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that took place from April 26 through June 5. The weeks of severe weather left hundreds of thousands without power and led to the death of at least seven people and dozens of injuries.

It remains unclear why the recovery centers were not opened up sooner after the storms.

In a post on X Monday, the City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management said that FEMA had opened three recovery centers across Dallas on July 13.

The facilities are open Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are located at Dallas College Eastfield Campus (3737 Motley Dr., Mesquite), West Dallas Multipurpose Center (2828 Fish Trap Rd., Dallas), and Dallas College Mountain View (4849 W Illinois Ave., Dallas). All facilities are accessible to people with disabilities and are equipped with “assistive technology.”

No appointment is needed.

FEMA said, “residents in Anderson, Austin, Bell, Calhoun, Collin, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Falls, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Jones, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Liberty, Montague, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Panola, Polk, San Jacinto, Rusk, Sabine, Smith, Terrell, Trinity, Tyler, Van Zandt, Walker and Waller counties can visit any open center to meet with representatives of FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration.”

Those unable to reach one of the Disaster Recover Center locations can apply for FEMA assistance online by clicking here, downloading the FEMA app, or calling 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Help is available in most languages, as well as via relay service and captioned telephone.

The deadline to apply is August 15.
