Timothy Simpkins, 18, is accused of shooting and injuring four people, including 15-year-old Zacchaeus Selby and a teacher, at Timberview High School. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after turning himself in. Simpkins has since been released on a $75,000 bond.
As previously reported by the Dallas Express, Simpkins’ family claimed he had been bullied and constantly harassed at school. His family alleged other students were jealous of his expensive lifestyle and that he drove a nice car. The family also states that they had complained to the school authorities but that administrators did nothing.
Despite Simpkins’ family bullying claim, they said he excelled in his studies. According to a Facebook statement made by his mother and grandmother, Katrina Roberson and Lillie Simpkins, the 18-year-old was a straight-A student who, until recently, attended a private school.
The family stated in the Facebook post that he “has always been a kind and thoughtful child who loves to learn.”
“Because he spends so much time focusing on his studies, most of his relatives call him the ‘little nerd’ of the family,” the Facebook post read.
The Facebook post also alleged that Simpkins was recently ambushed by a group of young males off-campus. Simpkins’ family claimed that the group had stripped him of his clothing in front of onlookers and robbed him of his money and possession.
Lorenzo Vasquez, 17, who lives next door to Simpkins, said that Timothy was quiet and kept to himself. Vasquez said Simpkins loved to take his 2018 silver Dodge Charger out to practice drifting. Vasquez added that he thinks bullies saw Simpkins as an easy target.
