The Mesquite Police Department has released a video of its investigation into a February 12 incident in which officers shot at a suspect after a disturbance call.
The Dallas Express had previously reported on the incident, saying Mesquite Police were alerted about a man who was allegedly trying to break into an apartment.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Dominick Green of Dallas.
Mesquite PD also released a video detailing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to the department, the shooting incident occurred after midnight on February 12, at an apartment complex in the 4700 block of Samuell Boulevard, near Big Town Boulevard.
The woman, whose apartment Green was allegedly trying to break into, could be heard in a 911 call saying Green was removing her apartment’s door hinges. Another woman could also be heard on a 911 call reporting the incident. The second woman reported that someone was banging the door of another apartment.
Upon arrival, officers apparently encountered Green, who fled the scene on foot after seeing the officers. The officers chased Green through a courtyard into the apartment complex parking lot.
Mesquite PD revealed that the officers heard a handgun fall to the ground before Green picked it up and pointed it at them.
One of the officers could be heard on the video asking Green to drop the weapon, while the second officer asked him to show his hands before firing at least eight rounds at the suspect.
Green could be seen in the video lying on the ground between two vehicles and repeatedly saying “stop,” with one hand raised.
One officer could be heard saying, “I’ve got the gun, I’ve got the gun,” while the other officer could be heard telling Green to stop reaching.
The video also showed the officers performing first aid on Green, who had at least six gunshot wounds on his chest and back.
According to the department, the officers recovered a 40-caliber Glock 27 from Green. Officers also found a bag containing an extra, high-capacity drum magazine for bullets.
The officers’ identities were not revealed, but Mesquite PD said one of the officers has been with the department for 2 years, while the other officer has been with the department for 1 year but has several years of experience from another agency.
Green is currently being held at the Dallas County jail. He is facing one charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and two charges of aggravated assault against a public servant.
