A dispatch-app alert reviewed by The Dallas Express describes officers being sent to Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Walnut Hill Station for a possible mental health welfare check involving a man reportedly claiming a demon was in his body.

The alert displays an October 18 timestamp of 3:19 p.m. CDT and classifies the call as a medical emergency. The visible summary ends before describing the outcome.

Separate bus threat report

A second alert, displaying an October 20 timestamp of 10:52 a.m. CDT, describes a passenger reportedly talking about killing someone aboard a DART bus. Its summary says a later camera review no longer showed the person aboard.

Both alerts identify their summaries as AI-generated from publicly available dispatch audio. DX has not independently authenticated the recordings or confirmed either reported incident. Neither alert establishes an arrest or injury.

An officer on every bus and train

DART separately examined expanded onboard security in an October 13 Safety and Security Committee briefing. Its model puts the additional annual cost of uniformed security on every train at $9.5 million with regular pay or $14.2 million with overtime.

The model uses a mix of police officers, fare enforcement officers and transit security officers. It does not price a sworn police officer on every bus and train.

The analysis covers light rail, the Silver Line and Trinity Railway Express, with two 10-hour shifts daily and relief coverage for breaks, meals, arrests and other incidents. Each weekday shift would require 35 police officers, 23 fare enforcement officers and 26 transit security officers.

The briefing presents a staffing option and does not establish that DART has implemented or funded that deployment.

Level IV refers to personal protection officer training under the Texas Department of Public Safety’s private security requirements. That designation alone does not confer sworn police authority. DART’s rail staffing model does not identify Level IV personal protection officers as a category.

Security demonstration targets five stations

DART’s September 9 announcement described Operation Access, a planned 90-day demonstration using police, fare enforcement and transit security personnel to increase fare inspections and enforce the Rider Code of Conduct.

The five initial stations were Bachman, MLK Jr., Forest Lane, 8th & Corinth and White Rock, as The Dallas Express reported in September. Walnut Hill was not on that initial list. DART said it would evaluate staffing, enforcement, passenger flow and technology needs during the demonstration.
