A wrong-way driver killed one person and seriously injured several others in a head-on collision on the Dallas North Tollway early Monday morning.

The deadly crash occurred around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Royal Lane, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

DPS troopers determined a Hyundai Tucson was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a Land Rover Velar head-on. The impact left twisted metal and debris scattered across multiple lanes of the tollway.

The Hyundai driver was transported to a local hospital but later pronounced dead. Multiple occupants of the Land Rover sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalization.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved in the crash. The investigation into the driver’s entry onto the tollway in the wrong direction is ongoing.

DPS has not indicated whether alcohol or other factors contributed to the fatal collision.
