The Dallas Police Department, in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and Paul Quinn College, hosted a Christmas Food Giveaway on Monday.
According to the DPD Beat, Dallas police officers and other volunteers filled their vehicles with food and toys to be distributed to recipients waiting in line at the Paul Quinn College campus, which served as the distribution center.
Dallas Police Assistant Chief Angela Shaw, Judge Tammie Kemp, Constable Bill Gipson, ll, the Dallas Marshals, and DART officers participated in the collaboration, according to the DPD Beat.
Dallas PD Sr. Cpl. In an interview, James Farmer told FOX 4 that the department addressed some of the community’s needs over the year as people dealt with COVID-19 and financial strains.
“We wanted to provide food to this area which is located in a food desert,” Farmer said.
Dallas police and their partners are hosting the food giveaway to relieve some of the financial burdens of families who are having to make difficult choices.
Sienna Encarnacion with the North Texas Food Bank said a food bank is always an option for those families that are having to “make tradeoffs between paying bills or putting gas in their car or buying food.”
Jessica Davis, one of the recipients, spoke of her appreciation for the giveaway.
“I’m very blessed and thankful,” said Davis. “We’re a big family of eight, and I’m very thankful for this. Very thankful.”
Jeri Crayton, who said he was there on behalf of his elderly neighbors, said, “it’s a blessing to have someone that cares about us in this neighborhood.”
“I think it’s great. I do appreciate their services,” Crayton said.
According to FOX 4 News, over 400 families benefited from the giveaway, receiving items that would lighten their Christmas this year.
