The Dallas Police Department recently hosted its 14th Annual Dallas Police Appreciation and Scholarship Luncheon at the Renaissance Dallas North Hotel. According to The DPD Beat, the event recognizes the hard work, dedication, and academic achievement of students of the class of 2022 who are children of Dallas police officers.
The event recognized Jordan Garcia, Heaven Hayden, Raven and Ronald Weathers, and Hannah Christian.
According to the department, Hannah Christian, a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park, is Senior Corporal Lawrence Christian’s daughter.
Hannah’s high school achievements include being named a member of the National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, varsity softball team, and student council. She is also a two-time University Interscholastic League (UIL) gold medalist in art and a UIL silver medalist in history and choir.
Hannah also volunteers at the Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth. Hannah plans on attending Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and majoring in business administration with a minor in graphic design.
Heaven Hayden is the daughter of Senior Corporal Kevin Hayden. Heaven graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Heaven also earned a spot on 1st Team All-District and 1st Team All-District; All-Tournament in basketball and was named District MVP. In her spare time, she volunteers with the Jewel Foundation, the Fourth Avenue Church of Christ, and the Police Athletic League.
Heaven plans on majoring in health science and criminal justice at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Jordan Garcia, a graduate of Crandall High School in Crandall, is the daughter of Senior Corporal George Garcia. She plans on majoring in cybersecurity at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
While in high school, Jordan qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Regionals. She was also a member of the Directors Award Concert Band. Jordan volunteers as a musician at the First Baptist Church of Kaufman.
Raven and Ronald Weathers are the children of Senior Corporal Faye Thomas. The siblings graduated from Red Oak High School in Red Oak, where Raven received a distinguished score in the UIL Solo competition for band. Ronald was a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society.
Raven and Ronald volunteer at the Margie Gipson Helping Hands Foundation and the Antioch Baptist Church.
Raven plans on studying art at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, while Ronald wants to study marketing and management in business at Dallas Baptist University.
The department also recognized Senior Corporals Amber Oliver and Soo Nam and Police Officers Jarvis Haywood and Bryan Joseph with the Community Excellence Award for their efforts to keep the city safe.
The Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event.
