Katrice Hardy, Executive Editor of The Dallas Morning News, has announced her departure to become the CEO of The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization focused on criminal justice.
Hardy will remain at The Dallas Morning News through February before assuming her new role in March.
Hardy joined The Dallas Morning News in August 2021, leading efforts to expand the newsroom and strengthen its journalism initiatives. Under her leadership, the paper launched community-funded programs like Arts Access in partnership with KERA, covering the arts through the lens of accessibility and equity.
At The Marshall Project, Hardy will oversee both editorial and business operations, a role previously divided between a president and an editor-in-chief. Having served on the organization’s board since 2022, Hardy brings experience in investigative journalism and newsroom leadership to her new position.
While Hardy will be leaving The Dallas Morning News, she plans to remain in Dallas and work remotely in her role as CEO. Her appointment is expected to bring a fresh strategic vision to The Marshall Project as it continues its mission of exposing injustices within the U.S. criminal justice system.
Hardy’s departure marks a significant transition for The Dallas Morning News, which will now begin the search for a new editorial leader. Her impact on the publication, particularly in expanding community journalism and newsroom diversity, will leave a lasting legacy.
