Dallas’ newest skatepark has officially opened at Bachman Lake Park after more than two years in development.
The 45,600 square-foot Bachman Lake Skatepark marks the city’s first large-scale, concrete inground park. The new $3.9 million skatepark includes a streetscape area, a pool bowl, a snake run, and a flow bowl.
The new amenity, designed for skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters, and rollerblades, was designed by Team Pain Skate Parks, an agency with a history of helping create more than 200 parks over the last three decades. The park has been a long time coming, with voters having approved bond funding for the project in 2017.
“We designed the area to be really long so it captures a lot of tricks that can be performed back-to-back,” Team Pain Skateparks President Tim Payne told WFAA back in 2022.”What’s really nice is the whole skate park has got natural shade around the whole north end and the west end of the park provided by the trees.”
This is not the first time Bachman Lake has seen skaters drop in.
Local skateboard legends like Jeff Phillips once showcased their vert skills on the so-called “Clown Ramp” in Backman Lake in the 1980s. Even Tony Hawk made an appearance in 1984 as he was rising in fame in the skating scene.
Skateparks have a special place here at The Dallas Express.
Last year, Monty and Sarah Bennett, founders of the newspaper, donated $25,000 along with the Ashford Group of Companies to the Oak Cliff Skatepark project.
“This contribution represents the largest single donation made to date for the first skateboard park proposed for South Dallas and first Dallas skateboard park seeking public and private funds,” Council Member Chad West, who represents Oak Cliff in District 1, said at the time.
