With December less than two weeks away, the City is gearing up for the Dallas Holiday Parade.
On December 7, the massive Dallas Holiday Parade returns to the city. The 36th annual event kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at Commerce and Houston streets. Expect delicious street food, intricate costumes, dancers, and, of course, massive floats.
“Only 15 days left until the Dallas Holiday Parade presented by Verizon!🎉⭐️🎄Join us in Downtown Dallas to see Frosty the Snowman and many other giant inflatable balloons march down Commerce Street!” read a November 17 post from the organizers.
As detailed in The Dallas Express, the annual tradition is the City’s largest one-day outdoor event. The parade stretches back to 1988 when it was started by The Adolphus and Children’s Medical Center Dallas as a way to celebrate the holidays and the hotel’s then 75th anniversary.
“Since then, we have paraded down Commerce, bringing love, life, and joy to the hundreds of thousands of spectators and making our event the largest in Texas! And with fabulous sponsors such as Verizon, Downtown Dallas, Inc., VisitDallas, and the Adolphus Hotel, we are sure to remain the official start of the holidays in Dallas and all of Texas for decades to come!” reads the event’s description.
The parade itself will run for roughly two hours, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The massive celebration will feature food trucks and vendors at Main Street Gardens and Civic Gardens from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
With a large number of expected people and street closures, organizers recommend taking DART downtown. They also suggest arriving early if you want a better chance at securing seating.
While entry is free, you can opt for a more premium experience. Bleacher seats range from $30 to $100. Guests can even choose the DHP Premier Club option, which includes a breakfast buffet, hot chocolate and juice bar, cookie decorating for children, and an assortment of treats.
