A blaze that broke out in a vacant home on Monday morning resulted in an injury to a Dallas firefighter who is expected to recover.

“The incident happened around 4:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Terrace Drive, near Interstate 35E and Illinois Avenue, where multiple 911 callers had reported smoke in the area, according to a news release from Dallas Fire-Rescue officials. Firefighters responded and found a ‘fully involved’ home that was on fire, the release said.

“Crews extinguished the fire by 4:42 a.m., but one of the firefighters was injured, suffering non-life-threatening burn injuries to his upper body, officials said. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation but was expected to be released later Monday.”

There have been more than 900 structure fires reported in Dallas over the last 12 months or so, according to the Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) incidents and response times dashboard.

At present, DFR is hitting its response time goal of 5 minutes and 20 seconds for such calls 87% of the time on average. It has managed to do so even despite fielding around 280,000 calls for service in the last year.

The Dallas City Council districts with the most structure fire calls in the last year are Council Member Carolyn King Arnold’s District 4 and Council Member Adam Bazaldua’s District 7, with 79 and 83 reports, respectively.
