Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to two separate early morning fires on Thursday, with one firefighter suffering minor injuries in the line of duty.
A vacant two-story home in Cockrell Hill was destroyed by fire, with flames so intense that firefighters could only battle the blaze from outside.
The fire erupted just before 4 a.m. on South Cockrell Hill Road, north of Ledbetter Drive in Southwest Dallas. By the time crews arrived, the structure was already engulfed, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
Firefighters deployed ladder trucks to combat the heavy flames from a safe distance. The inferno gutted the abandoned home’s interior.
Dallas Fire-Rescue investigators have not yet determined what sparked the blaze. The cause remains under investigation as crews examine the property’s charred remains.
Hours earlier, Dallas Fire Department crews responded to massive flames at a two-story complex around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
A firefighter tumbled through a second-floor balcony while battling the apartment fire on Brockbank Drive in Northwest Dallas. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where doctors treated his minor injuries. He was released after several hours and is now recovering at home.
Three of the four destroyed apartments were vacant, but one tenant lost all possessions.
