The City of Dallas Development Services Department will host an information session this summer to educate developers and contractors on how to efficiently complete a certain phase of Dallas’ lengthy permitting process.

Scheduled for July 1, the department’s Q-Team, which is described as a “fee-based, expedited plan review process that allows applicants to receive a personalized plan review with the possibility of permit issuance on the same day as the review meeting,” will inform stakeholders on everything they need to pass through the pre-screen successfully.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Development Services Department (DSD) has been criticized for its periodic permitting backlogs, lengthy turnaround times, and various inefficiencies under former City Manager T.C. Broadnax, who left his post earlier this month.

DSD has a pre-screen checklist available online that outlines dozens of possible documentation categories that must be met on any given plan submission for a permit.

“By checking each applicable requirement, you are stating that you have supplied correct and complete information. If the required information is not contained in the submitted documents, you will be notified of the deficiency. Failure to supply the additional requested information may result in your application being delayed, denied, and eventually discarded. A new application, complete plans, and a new checklist will be required for resubmittal for plan review. This resubmittal will be treated as a new application and will be processed in the order of receipt,” reads the checklist.

The event on July 1 will last from 12 to 1 p.m. at DSD’s training center at 400 South Zang Blvd.
