After the storm that rolled through North Texas on Sunday, October 10, a Dallas couple escaped an intense fire in their home.

The fire began around 11:30 p.m. on Ashton Court, near Hillcrest Road and the LBJ Freeway. The storm had caused a power outage at the time, and the homeowner said he saw a flash of light which he thought must have been from an arc in the power lines.

The owner revealed that he smelled smoke a few minutes after he saw the flash of light. He added that his smoke detectors went off afterward. They were able to get out quickly with their dog.

The house fire raged so hard that firefighters had to back away from it out of fear the house would collapse. It took firefighters approximately two hours to get the fire under control.

Everyone in the house was accounted for and made it out of the house safely. Investigators from the Dallas Fire-Rescue are working to determine the cause of the fire.
