Dallas County Voter Registration Deadline Is October 5: Check Your Status

Dallas County residents who need to register to vote in the November 3 general election have until Monday, October 5, to meet the deadline, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

The deadline also gives voters who have moved a final opportunity to update their address in time for the election. Early voting runs October 19 through October 30.

How to check your registration

Texas offers an online registration lookup, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Start at the state portal and select “Am I Registered?” to check your record.

The lookup offers searches using a Voter Unique Identifier, a Texas driver’s license number or your name. Follow the prompts for identifying information, then review your registration status and address.

If you cannot find your record or something looks wrong, contact the Dallas County voter registrar at 469-627-8683. The office is at 1520 Round Table Drive, Dallas, TX 75247.

How to register before Monday’s deadline

New applicants can complete the state’s application form online, but they must print, sign and mail it or deliver it to the county election office. Filling out that form on a screen does not submit a voter registration application.

For the November election, mailed applications need a postmark no later than October 5; applicants delivering forms in person must get them to the registrar by that date. Call the county office to confirm its hours before visiting.

The Secretary of State’s office recommends requesting a manual postmark at a U.S. Postal Service retail counter. Simply dropping an application into the mail on the deadline does not guarantee a same-day postmark.

Texas also allows eligible residents to register through certain online driver’s license or state ID transactions with the Department of Public Safety, including renewals and address changes.

Applicants must meet the state’s eligibility rules, including U.S. citizenship, county residency and age 18 by Election Day. Additional rules address felony convictions and court determinations affecting voting rights.

Moved or changed your name

Registered Texas voters can update online through the state’s name and address change service, including moves to another Texas county. The service requires a current Texas driver’s license or ID card, Social Security number and Voter Unique Identifier.

An October 5 submission meets the address-change deadline for the November 3 election, according to state registration guidance.

A “suspense” status means the registrar needs to confirm your residential address. It does not automatically mean you cannot vote. Contact the registrar to resolve the address issue and confirm your voting options.

Dates to keep handy

The state’s election calendar lists October 19 as the first day of early voting and October 30 as the last. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

For eligible voters seeking a ballot by mail, the separate application deadline is October 23. Election officials must receive that application by the deadline; a postmark alone does not satisfy it.
