Dallas County Elections officials have corrected a coding error that caused City Council races in Richardson to appear incorrectly on early voting ballots.

The error, discovered on the first day of early voting, displayed City Council Places 1-4 as single-member districts when they should have been listed on every Richardson voter’s ballot as City Council Places 1-6 and the Mayor, all elected at-large.
County officials released a public notice at 5:00 p.m. yesterday announcing that testing was underway. An update at 7:19 p.m. confirmed that the error had been identified.

The technical error stemmed from incorrect ballot coding that misrepresented how voters could select their council representatives.

Dallas County Elections officials identified the problem and worked through the early morning hours of April 23 to complete the reprogramming.

Officials confirmed that votes cast before the correction will still be counted. However, voters who already cast their ballots are not eligible to vote again, regardless of the display issue.

Election officials emphasized that the ballot display issue has been fully resolved.

Early voting continues through next week, with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, May 3.
