A massive fire at a vacant Northwest Dallas apartment complex spread to a nearby neighborhood, destroying several homes.

The Dallas fire department arrived at the scene in the 3400 block of Hidalgo Drive around 1:44 a.m. on January 15.

Fanned by high winds, the fire completely engulfed the complex, prompting officials to dispatch second and third alarm responses.

Seventy firefighters were working to contain the fire when it succumbed to the damage and collapsed.

According to officials, the high winds spread burning embers into the surrounding area, eventually catching some homes nearby on fire.

Additional fire crews responded to Larga, Fontana, and Espanola Drives, where six homes suffered fire and smoke damage.

One of the homes, located at 9637 Larga Drive, was severely damaged.

An RV/camper behind a home, located on the corner of Fontana and Larga, was also ruined.

No one was injured in the incident, and displaced residents found shelter with other family members.

Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown.
