The City of Dallas has partnered with a new Spay Neuter Network to offer free spay/neuter services for Dallas’s free-roaming cats.

State officials have debated effective and humane ways to reduce the population of feral cats inhabiting local cities for some time. Last year, a poll revealed that most Texans support Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return programs to achieve this purpose, as The Dallas Express reported.

The City announced on January 19 that Dallas Animal Services (DAS) and Spay Neuter Network (SNN) would partner to offer services such as spaying/neutering, FVRCP vaccinations, microchipping, ear-tipping, and rabies vaccination to feral cats around the City. This program only applies to feral or “un-owned” cats and not to kittens trapped to be later sent to an adoption program, per the press release.

Those who wish to participate in the program are required to get an SR number from the City of Dallas 3-1-1. Once received, participants may bring up to four cats each day, contained in a humane trap, to Spay Neuter Network’s clinic in Dallas.

Only one SR number is required per address.

“SNN, is committed to helping reduce pet overpopulation, and this includes the free-roaming cats in our community,” said Jordan Craig, executive director of SNN, according to the release. “SNN and DAS are working together to make these services more accessible to our community members so that we can help more cats.”

Residents may register for an SR number by going to this link and selecting “Animal Care and Control” and then “Animal Community Cat Program.”
