City Plan Commissioner Tweets Vulgarities at Governor

After Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Twitter on April 13 that he had reached an agreement with the governor of the Mexican State of Nuevo Leon on border security, Dallas City Plan Commissioner Melissa Kingston tweeted her own opinion on the matter in a vulgarity-laced rant.

According to Advocate Lakewood, “Melissa Kingston […] keeps a lower profile. She says she avoids Twitter because she sees it as ‘an insider channel.'” It appears her stance has changed since 2018 when the article was printed.

Kingston’s tweet directed to Gov. Abbott read, “You are [such] a [expletive] [expletive]. Do you really think Becky and Karen are gonna think this is cool when they can’t have guac and margaritas?” Her expletives included the F-word and an unflattering four-letter slang term referencing female anatomy.

Kingston serves as Commissioner of District 14 on the Dallas City Plan Commission. Some felt that her use of profanity as a representative of the City of Dallas was inappropriate.

Former Dallas City Council candidate Israel R. Varela (@israelrvarela on Twitter) “quote tweeted” the post, calling it a racial epithet and tagging Abbott, the City of Dallas, and City of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.

In a further tweet, Varela called for an investigation and Kingston’s expulsion from the District 14 City Planning Commission for “conduct unbecoming of a city representative.”

He wrote in conclusion, “If Dallas wants to be a world-class city, then we must have leaders, and representatives who conduct themselves with world-class behavior.”

Kingston has since deleted her tweet, but many Twitter replies to Abbott remain that contain hateful comments toward the governor. She has called him a “moron,” an “evil embarrassment,” and even a “jacka**.”

City leaders have so far been silent on the subject.

The Dallas Express reached out to Mayor Johnson, Councilmember Paul Ridley (who appointed the commissioner to her position), and the City of Dallas for comment on Kingston’s tweet, but no one responded to the requests for comments.

It is unclear if they will denounce her behavior or if there will be an investigation into the matter.

Additionally, Kingston did not respond to a request for comment.

Why do you show a picture of Melissa Kingston holding a poster with another candidate’s name? Are you trying to give the impression that Paul Ridley is somehow involved in this vulgar and inappropriate language. Your photo is deceptive and sadly will mislead to the many social media users who don’t read. But you already know that, don’t you!

I certainly don’t associate Paul Ridley with her conduct—but he did appoint her, and it would be nice if he and all the City Council members (I am disappointed in my own) took a stance against such vulgarity. It’s not that I take issue with her disagreement with the Governor’s actions—she doesn’t lose that right just because of her appointment; it is the full-blown disrespect shown towards another elected official. She is in a position of having to work with other elected officials and of having to respect the laws and agreements from these officials regardless of whether she agrees with them. Her emotions and hatred spewing forth may well get in the way of that. Though I don’t think an investigation is called for, it would be nice for our elected government officials to come forward and state that this conduct is not representative of Dallas City Government and this is not how we role.

Never ceases to amaze me the immaturity, hate, and lack of control in our society but it is appalling to have that immaturity in any public position representing Our city. This young lady really thinks she has the right and the power to act as she wants without consideration for what she represents . . In order to get ahead Dallas must choose the best to be in City Hall this should not be allowed . Melissa needs to be let go, removed no need to sugar coat her actions. .
