City of Mesquite issued the following announcement on June 2

The City of Mesquite has announced that Downtown Mesquite has earned the distinction of being a Nationally Accredited Main Street Program for the second year in a row. Downtown Mesquite was selected for the honor by Main Street America, also known as the National Main Street Center.

Downtown Manager Beverly Abell said, “This is a great tribute to all the hard work of our downtown volunteers and the dedication of the advisory board. We are evaluated by Texas Main Street, which works in partnership with Main Street America, to identify local programs that exceed 10 national performance standards. This level of accreditation is awarded to communities that are building meaningful and sustainable revitalization programs.”

On May 22, the community celebrated the opening of Front Street Station, the City of Mesquite’s $5.5 million infrastructure improvement project in Downtown Mesquite. The project provides new underground infrastructure for new business developments, an area for events and vendor booths, a performance pavilion, as well as new parking spaces and landscaping.

Downtown Mesquite has won multiple statewide awards for downtown revitalization programming. In 2019, it earned two Texas Downtown Association President’s Awards for Best Economic Game Changer and Spirit of Downtown. The following year, it achieved the prestigious National Accreditation by the Texas Main Street and National Main Street programs.

The nationally accredited program provides an array of services to businesses and property owners within the district. This includes six façade enhancement grants totaling $114,000. New businesses such as the upcoming Alejandro’s @ Front Street Station adds to the momentum of the revitalization efforts. Also, a new downtown development office and visitor center will open later this year that will house Downtown Mesquite as well as the Mesquite Convention and Visitors Bureau.

And on June 12, the new Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market will make its debut. It will take place every Saturday from June 12 to November 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Front Street Station. It will feature more than local farmers and vendors as well as live music, food trucks, and activities for the whole family.

Abell said, “Downtown Mesquite continues to foster strong public-private partnerships, preserve historic buildings and create opportunities for long-term, stable results. It has become a significant place of commerce and economic investments.”
