City of Mesquite issued the following announcement on May 28

Today, the City of Mesquite honored the late Randy Lawson with a United States flag that was flown over the the U.S. Capitol and then flown over the Mesquite Veterans Memorial. It was presented to the family of Randy Lawson who helped raise funds and awareness for the new memorial. Lawson passed away in 2021 after the memorial was built and dedicated.

Mayor Bruce Archer presented the flag to Randy’s wife Susan Lawson. The presentation was aided by members of the Heroes of Mesquite, which is the group Randy founded to begin a campaign to build a new memorial to honor all military veterans and their families.

The memorial was dedicated in 2020 and was funded by community contributions and sponsorships from title sponsors Atmos Energy, as well as many major donors like Bloomfield Homes. More than 1,500 bricks were purchased by the public for the walkway that leads into the plaza of the memorial.
