CITY OF GARLAND: Conservation Tips to Save Resources and Money

11.jpe

City of Garland issued the following announcement on June 17

Rising temperatures often mean increased electric use to keep you and your home cool. Follow these tips from Garland Power & Light to help save energy and money this summer:

  • Fans are an energy-efficient way to stay cool.
  • Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher in the summer. Each degree cooler can increase your energy use by 6% to 8%.
  • Clean or replace filters every month. Dirty filters make your system work harder and run longer than necessary.
  • Check for cracked caulking or damaged weather stripping and replace when necessary to avoid letting cool air escape.

The City of Garland Water Utilities department is dedicated to the efficient use of water in our community and summer is an especially important time to conserve resources. Follow these tips to help conserve water:

  • Don’t water between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to prevent excessive evaporation.
  • Don’t use sprinklers or irrigation systems during a rain event.
  • New irrigation systems must be equipped with rain and freeze sensors.
  • Properly maintain outdoor irrigation systems and repair any leaks or broken sprinkler heads.
