The City of Dallas swore in new Police Chief Daniel Comeaux and new Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Justin Ball during a ceremony Monday night.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the event was held at Concord church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Dallas residents were encouraged to welcome the new chiefs.
Although Comeaux and Ball have each been working in their roles since April 23, this ceremony will officially mark a new chapter for the City of Dallas under its new leadership in these departments.
Dallas City Manager Kim Tolbert welcomed the new chiefs during the ceremony and said both are prepared to help the city thrive in their roles.
“Both of you are unwavering in your dedication to your calling as public servants. And so tonight, it gives me great pride to have you standing here with me.”
Comeaux said he believes he can learn a lot from the city and plans to use these lessons daily during his time with the department.
“Look, listen, and learn. That’s what I’m gonna do when I first sit in this seat,” he said.
Comeaux has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and most recently managed 12 divisions as the Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Houston Field Division, as previously reported by DX.
The City of Dallas selected Comeaux following a nationwide search that resulted in a pool of 25 candidates.
Ball also made a statement before his swearing-in, saying he was grateful for the chance to work with Dallas Fire-Rescue and would always remember where he came from during tough times.
“Through it all, my purpose has remained simple. Serve with humility, lead with integrity, and don’t forget my journey to get here,” he said.
Ball is a familiar face in Dallas Fire-Rescue, having worked with the department since 1997 and serving as the department’s interim chief for over a year following the departure of Dominique Artis.
