A child was injured by a pocket knife at The International Leadership Academy on May 17.

According to CBS 11 News, Fort Worth police officers responded to the scene in the 5900 block of Boca Raton around 10:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a stabbing/slashing at ILTexas East Fort Worth K-8.

Responding officers were informed that the incident involved two students — a boy and a girl between the ages of 10 and 12 — who had been playing. Police said one of the children had a pocket knife.

Fort Worth police said the girl cut the boy on his knee with the knife after both students got into a minor altercation. The boy was treated at the scene, and his injuries were not serious.

“As soon as campus leadership became aware of the incident, the knife was confiscated and an investigation began,” officials with the International Leadership of Texas Academy said in a statement sent to CBS 11 News. “Fort Worth Police Officers were also called to the campus to ensure the safety of all and support the investigation.”

The statement revealed that police determined the child who brought the knife to school did not mean to harm anyone, and her fellow student was injured due to horseplay.

It is not clear how the student obtained the pocket knife. No further information was available as of press time.
