Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam Bazaldua, who serves as the council member for District 7, tweeted his support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy despite refusing to comment on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

“Remember just 16 years ago when people swore our country wasn’t going to vote for our first black president? Then came 8 years of hope… This election is no different, don’t get caught up in hypotheticals, just work like hell to make it a reality,” Bazaldua posted on X, referring to the recent announcement that President Joe Biden would not seek re-election. Biden endorsed Harris to succeed him as commander-in-chief.

Bazaldua also retweeted Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) endorsement of Harris, an ad promoting the vice president’s candidacy, and a tweet from Harris in 2019 condemning then-President Donald Trump.

Less than one hour after Biden announced that he was dropping out of the race, Bazaldua retweeted the president’s tweet and wrote, “Democrats, this is not the time for infighting, this is the time to do everything necessary to beat Donald Trump in November. It’s a hell of a time to be a delegate for our state, I look forward to roll call voting for @KamalaHarris on August 7th and supporting Madam Vice in Chicago at the Democratic Convention. All hands on deck!”

The previous weekend, when Trump was shot in the ear while speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, The Dallas Express contacted Bazaldua for his reaction. He did not respond.

In fact, all 14 Dallas City Council members opted not to share their thoughts about the attempted assassination with DX or express them on social media.

DX reached out to Council Members Chad West (District 1), Jesse Moreno (District 2), Zarin D. Gracey (District 3), Carolyn King Arnold (District 4), Jaime Resendez (District 5), Omar Narvaez (District 6), Adam Bazaldua (District 7), Tennell Atkins (District 8), Paula Blackmon (District 9), Kathy Stewart (District 10), Jaynie Schultz (District 11), Cara Mendelsohn (District 12), Gay Donnell Willis (District 13), and Paul Ridley (District 14). Not one responded.

Likewise, DX also checked all of their social media feeds. Not one mentioned the attempted assassination. Granted, some council members, like Stewart and Ridley, have not posted on Facebook in many years, and others either do not have X accounts or their accounts have been mostly inactive for some time.

However, Bazaldua is a frequent poster on X. A few days before the assassination attempt, he retweeted an ad from the Lincoln Project that described a second Trump term as “the death of American democracy.”

The short video speculated that Trump would arrest political opponents, deport “American citizens,” send Americans to “camps,” and authorize states to monitor women’s menstrual cycles.

DX asked Bazaldua if his retweet should be deleted given the action Biden took, deleting a tweet about putting Trump in a “bullseye” that was posted just days before the shooting, but he did not respond by publication.
