International infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has won a major contract to reconstruct a section of Interstate 30 in Dallas.
UK-based Balfour Beatty, which maintains an operating center in Dallas and employs 5,500 people in the United States, has been awarded an $880 million contract to rebuild a 2.3-mile stretch of I-30 on the east side of Dallas County. The work for the Texas Department of Transportation will see the number of general-purpose lanes increase from six to 12 in an effort to reduce the city’s congestion.
In addition to the road widening, Balfour Beatty will be adding nine crossings linking I-30 with the Southern Gateway, the I-35E Lowest Stemmons, and The Horseshoe, all projects the firm has completed for the Texas Department of Transportation in recent years.
In November 2024, Balfour was awarded another major contract from the Texas Transportation Department to rebuild a section of Interstate 35 through Austin. That contract was valued at $746 million.
Earlier this year, The Dallas Express reported that I-30 in Dallas County is among the most dangerous roadways in the country. In 2022, the roadway recorded 12 fatalities, the fifth-highest of any highway in the United States.
Preconstruction on the I-30 project is expected to begin next year, and the work is forecast to take five years to complete.
