April’s Flawless Restaurants

Food lovers across the city of Dallas can enjoy a seemingly endless array of dining options across the area. Dallas boasts over 6,000 permitted fixed food establishments, including restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, schools, delis, and grocery stores. In addition, Dallas is home to more than 800 mobile food units, such as food trucks, kiosks, and food service carts.

The Dallas Express continues its series showcasing the best from the worst that the city has to offer. The latest installment of this series will feature the most recent data from the month of April. 

City health inspectors grade food entities on a 100-point scale. Those that earn a score of 70 or above are considered passing, while those with a score of 69 or below are considered failing, according to the City of Dallas.

Restaurants with scores of 80 to 100 must undergo regular inspections every six months, and scores between 70 and 79 require reinspection within 30 days. Scores of 60-69 warrant a review within the following 10 days. 

A score below 60 requires immediate closure, and the restaurant must pass a new inspection before reopening.

This latest set of data from the city features 742 restaurants around the city. Of this amount, 94 of these entities had perfect scores from the city. 

As part of our April write-up, The Dallas Express sent one of its reporters to a location on this list in the form of Hawaiian Bros.  

Hawaiian Bros is a fast-casual restaurant chain that specializes in plate-style Hawaiian cuisine. This chain was founded by brothers Cameron and Tyler McNie.  

Cameron and Tyler had 15 years of experience working in their family’s own Hawaiian grill and opened their first Hawaiian Bros location in Belton, Missouri, in 2018. 

The chain has since expanded to over 40 locations across the United States. The state of Texas currently has the most locations in the nation, with 17 of all U.S. locations. 

One can find 10 of these Texas-based locations scattered across the metroplex. 

Hawaiian Bros features a number of signature dishes such as huli huli chicken, kalua pork, and Spam musubi. 

Upon arriving at the Hawaiian Bros location, the first word that came to mind was pristine. The smell of food hung in the air, and one could also get a feeling of freshness. 

The interior of the establishment was nearly spotless. Windows, tables, and floors seemed as though they had been freshly cleaned. 

In addition, the staff was very friendly, welcoming all who entered with the Hawaiian greeting “aloha.” Ordering was quick and simple. 

The food arrived hot and fresh, and it was a delicious combination of savory and sweet flavors.   

The bathrooms also mirrored the same standard of cleanliness as the rest of the restaurant: the inside was well-managed and kept. 

Overall, the experience inside this restaurant was very pleasant. A clean and well-kept facility combined with delicious dining options made this Dallas location a very enjoyable option among the available eateries in the Dallas area.
