A Red Bird apartment building caught fire at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters responded to the fire at Mandalay Palms Apartments in the 3100 block of Cliff Creek Crossing Drive that night. A seventy-year-old woman was reported dead.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, Jason Evans, said that firefighters found fire coming from the first-floor balcony of a two-story apartment building when they arrived at the scene. The emergency crew sprang to work and helped multiple people out of the fire.

According to Evans, two women in their seventies were among those in the blaze. After they were rescued from the fire, both women were transferred to the hospital, where they were treated. However, one died at the hospital.

The second woman remains hospitalized as of Monday.

The women’s identities or details of their injuries have not been provided.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished just after midnight, is still under investigation.
