Lewisville is closing its Gene Carey Animal Shelter after many of its staff members fell sick with COVID-19.

According to FOX 4 News, the city said it is closing the shelter to the public in a bid to protect staff members and visitors. However, there will still be a limited number of workers who will remain in the shelter to keep daily activities running.

The activities to be maintained in the shelter include feeding and caring for the animals. The city also said that animal service officers will be available to respond to emergency calls during the temporary lockdown.

Per the report, the shelter is expected to resume normal activities on Tuesday, January 18.
