Animal Rescue in DFW Saves Homeless Dogs

Created in 2004, A Different Breed is an animal rescue in the DFW area dedicated to rehabilitating homeless and otherwise hopeless dogs. They rescue dogs and cats from all sorts of situations, including puppy mills, kill shelters, and animals who have been given up. A Different Breed also does more than just shelter pets. For the past seventeen years, they have been providing dogs and cats with the training and medical attention needed to land the pets in a loving home. The shelter ensures that the dogs are all spayed or neutered and have regular veterinarian attention.  

One of the core beliefs of A Different Breed is that all animals, large and small, deserve a chance at life. On their website, they bring attention to the statistic that about 200,000 animals from the Dallas area get put down every year when they cannot find a home. On their website, they have posted some successful adoptions they have had over the years.  

2021 is going to be an important year for A Different Breed. Starting on August 23 and running through September 19, they will be involved in the annual Clear the Shelters event. This is an event hosted all across the United States that encourages the adoption of dogs in shelters. The cost of adoption is fifty dollars and includes the necessary medical procedures when adopting. A Different Breed offers heartworm testing, spaying or neutering, microchipping, and deworming all with the adoption of the pet.  

Over the years, A Different Breed has grown as an organization. Originally founded as a foster program, they now have a twelve-acre shelter to home the pets while they wait to find a foster home.  When visiting their website, you will be able to navigate to a comprehensive list of all the dogs available. Each dog has a picture along with a short description, including age and breed. Some come with a short description of the dog as well. The website also contains some photos and stories of successful adoptions. If you would be interested in donating to help out the shelter, they have a donation tab on the right side of the main page. You can choose any amount to donate as long as it is in USD currency.  

Another interesting thing about A Different Breed is its partnership with Amazon. If you use their link to shop on Amazon, a portion of the cost will go to the shelter. They have a wishlist if you are more interested in giving to the shelter directly. They are always in need of supplies for their pets.  You can also volunteer at the shelter by filling out their online waiver. To help them out the most, you are able to foster a dog from the shelter.
