Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) responded to a three-alarm fire in a warehouse near Arcadia Park early Tuesday.
DFR responded to a call at 5:28 a.m. about a fire at a warehouse at 9306 West Jefferson Blvd. The department said the fire was “well advanced” by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.
Between 60 and 70 firefighters battled multiple blazes using aerial ladders and ground lines. No injuries were reported.
DFR officials told WFAA that there was severe damage to the roof of the building, which resulted in a major roof collapse.
CBS News reported that the warehouse was part of an old aviation manufacturing plant that had been abandoned and was undergoing demolition.
Although fire officials told CBS that the fire was mostly contained by 8:44 a.m., DFR planned to remain at the location for a few days to conduct overhaul operations.
Another fire in April at the same location was reportedly started by homeless people or vagrants lighting fires inside the building.
The cause of the fire on Tuesday was undetermined because there were no known witnesses, DFR officials said.
The U.S. Fire Administration has explained that vacant building fires are very common.
“Fire is intertwined with abandonment as both a cause and an undesired side effect,” the agency’s website reads. “Abandoned and vacant structures can be extremely treacherous to firefighters, as they lack structural integrity and may contain other hazards.”
