A 7-year-old left her doll at the memorial of Mesquite officer Richard Houston who was shot and killed while he responded to a domestic disturbance call last Friday.

According to a FOX 4 News report, the young girl, Jayda Cobbs, lives with her mother near the police station. The mother said Jayda was upset when she told her the reason for the memorial.

The mother said Jayda then decided to leave her doll for the officer’s children in case he had any.

Officer Richard Houston left behind three children, one of whom is a college student. The college student, whose name is unknown, learned about Jayda’s gesture on a Facebook post by GoodDay anchor Lauren Przybyl.

She commented on the post, saying Jayda’s act of kindness meant so much to her family. She also said Houston would have loved Jayda too.

Houston’s alleged shooter, who police identified as Jamie Jaramillo, remains in the hospital due to shooting wounds he inflicted on himself after shooting the officer, authorities say.
