Dallas police and U.S. marshals arrested 61 fugitives wanted for robberies in a joint operation spanning six weeks.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Texas Sean Malecha, and Sergeant Sheldon Smith announced the results of Operation Clean Sweep, which ran from February 2 to March 12.

The effort targeted fugitives sought for robbery offenses in Dallas and other areas through a partnership between the Dallas Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to DPD.

Several offenders faced charges in multiple robberies and aggravated robberies. Many others carried extensive criminal histories that included prior robberies, shootings, drug charges, and murders.

“Our data tells us that a small number of criminals are responsible for a majority of the crime,” Comeaux said in a news release. “By partnering with the U.S. Marshals, we are able to multiply our manpower and take these fugitives off the street before they can re-offend.”

Investigators from the Robbery Unit and the Serial Robbery Task Force identified the suspects. The U.S. Marshals, Fugitive Unit, and patrol Crime Response Teams then tracked and arrested them.

During the operation, robberies of individuals dropped 17.75%, and robberies of businesses fell 35.29%.
