According to an arrest affidavit released Monday, a 28-year-old man in Dallas stabbed and killed his girlfriend with a knife as they were both arguing.

David Perez, 28, was arrested by Dallas police in connection with the July 10 murder of Heather Hammond.
Officers of the Dallas PD responded to a call regarding a dead person in a Northwest Dallas apartment last Saturday night. When officers arrived, they found Hammond lying in an apartment living room covered in blood.

Officers brought Perez to the Dallas Police Headquarters as a witness. Perez told detectives in an interview that he and Hammond had injected themselves with heroin before he fell asleep. Perez said he and Hammond started checking for his social security, unemployment and stimulus check on his computer.

Perez told detectives that he and his girlfriend started arguing and that he was also hearing voices. According to Perez, he blacked out, and when he came to, he found Hammond’s body in the living room.

Dallas police said they found a knife inside the apartment where the incident occurred. The knife appeared to be cleaned but had blood and hair in the groove and inside the handle.
