Dallas police have arrested a 21-year-old man on Wednesday, Oct. 20, for allegedly shooting and killing a man during a dispute in a Pleasant Grove parking lot.

Dallas Police arrested Luis Martinez on charges of murder in connection to the fatal shooting of Harvey Hughes.

According to Martinez’s arrest warrant, Hughes was fatally shot by the 21-year-old on May 16 in a Pleasant Grove parking lot located in the 2100 block of North Masters Drive, near Bruton and Lake June roads.

The arrest warrant affidavit also stated that a woman who was in the victim’s car told Dallas police officers that Hughes was driving out of the parking lot when a dark-colored pickup stopped in front of his car.

The woman said Hughes honked his horn at the driver of the pickup and drove towards the parking lot’s exit. The woman told detectives that both cars eventually ended up side by side before Hughes got out of his vehicle and began arguing with the driver of the dark-colored pickup.

The affidavit revealed that the woman said she told Hughes to get back in the car. She recalled Hughes getting back into the vehicle to continue their drive, but as the other driver turned out of the parking lot, he pulled out a handgun and shot at Hughes’s car multiple times.

According to police, another witness identified Martinez as the other driver and said the 21-year-old shot the victim after seeing Hughes open his trunk.

Hughes was hit multiple times and died on May 25 at a hospital. The woman in his car was also shot in the face with bullet fragments.

Martinez is facing a murder charge and a charge of aggravated assault, with a bail set at $300,000.
